Popular Rolex icons at Rapp Auctions
The reference 6263 “Big Red” is widely considered one of the most sought-after vintage Rolex Daytona models of all time.
While the Daytona watches of the iconic reference 6263 with the exotic Paul Newman dials regularly make headlines and sell for astronomical prices at auctions, the “Big Red” is another variant that is often sought after by vintage Rolex collectors. The reference 6263 “Big Red” gets its name from the bright red “DAYTONA” lettering that appears in oversized font in the center of the dial above the subdial at 6 o’clock.
Cosmograph Daytona “Big Red”, Reference 6263. Stainless steel chronograph, circa 1978.
The "Big Red" is a true vintage masterpiece in terms of technical and sporty aspects. It is a true classic.
The Daytona reference 6263 “Big Red” represents the perfect blend of modern and old Rolex chronograph features: it is equipped with a screw-down crown and chronograph pushers, but its case diameter of 37 mm, Valjoux manual-winding movement, and acrylic crystal make it unmistakably a vintage timepiece.
